No matter how much hip hop you own, physically being in the birthplace of hip hop - New York City - can be one of the most enriching experiences, especially if you have the right people around you. Taking your hip hop culture to a higher level is Hush Tours, a more-than-legit hip hop tour through the streets of NYC, showing you the landmark spots of where, why and how it all began.

Starting off in mid-Manhattan on 31st and 5th Ave, a tour bus with Grandmaster Caz (original member of the Cold Crush Brothers) acting as your tour guide kicks off the tour by even asking a few Hip Hop 101 questions, testing and tickling those on board of their knowledge. While queuing up the boom box with joints such as Cam'ron & Jay Z's "Welcome to New York City," Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz' " Déjà vu (Uptown Baby)" and BDP's "South Bronx" just to name a few, you're feeling each track riding through Manhattan, Harlem and the Bronx. A video of old school park jams is shown, while you actually pass the physical structures of where 'Harlem World Arena' once stood, home of the famous battle between Kool Moe Dee and Busy Bee. We make occasional stops at 106th & Park's "Graffiti Wall of Fame" to take group pictures, and even streets and homes of Dougie Fresh, Flavor Flav and many more are pointed out. Did I mention fake rope chains and Kangol hats are provided for the fun of it?

A few surprises are in store too, as Raheim of Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five hops onto the bus much to everyone's amazement, helping narrate some of hip hop's history alongside Caz. That day, even LA Sunshine (of the Treacherous 3) met us at our (included) lunch spot in the Bronx, and got busy bussing old school raps a cappella style (or as Caz refers to it - 'Acapulco style') on our way back to Manhattan. Everyone in fact gave us a taste, from Caz's "Rapper's Delight Remix" (Caz was the original writer of "Rapper's Delight" by Sugar Hill Gang) to Raheim's onslaught about phony rappers of today. Depending on their weekend schedule, other pioneers such as DJ Red Alert and Kurtis Blow are also officially part of this tour, while a Japanese translator (HushTours_JP@yahoo.com) is always on board. Students also get a significant discount.
