Miller Genuine Draft Presents "Pure Night Out" featuring Cypress Hill and Little Brother House of Blues, Anaheim, CA - July 29th, 2003

Hip-Hop music is everywhere. From prime-time television commercials, to daytime talk shows, to ESPN and sports, and Miller Genuine Draft (MGD) is capitalizing on the moment by introducing their latest concert series "Pure Night Out," which is their way of giving back to their consumers. Their multi-city tour is bringing major acts to small, intimate settings at an unheard of ticket price. For five to seven dollars (including service charges!) you can be front and center with some of the biggest names in Hip-Hop.

Fresh of their International Tour and amidst production of a new album, Cypress Hill jumped on the "Pure Night Out" tour for three dates in Chicago, San Francisco, and Anaheim, CA where we caught the show.

Opening up for Cypress, were the newcomers with a buzz out of North Carolina, Little Brother. Often referred to as a throwback to some of the classic groups from the early 90's like A Tribe Called Quest, they had their work cut out for them opening for local, seasoned vets with over 10 years of experience. Proving they had some stage experience of their own, Little Brother stepped up and gave the crowd a strong performance. For 45 minutes, Little Brother led the house through what seemed to be about 80 percent of their album. They moved the crowd with tracks like "Speed," "The Listening," "The Yo-Yo," "Shorty on the Lookout," and had the crowd jumping to the Al Green sampled "Light It Up."

After a brief intermission, as the smoke thickened, and the crowd buzzed, Cypress' percussionist Bobo and the one and only DJ Muggs made their way to the stage and set the soundtrack for B-Real and Sen Dog's entrance. As the sirens and the bass boomed throughout the venue, B-Real's unmistakable nasal voice emerged chanting the chorus of track that set off their "Black Sunday" album, "I Wanna Get High," which provided a perfect intro for the evening that took the crowd to a high and never brought them down. At one point, there was so much action in the front row, the music stopped and B-Real leaned over and asked a female fan if she needed a doctor, "Dr Greenthumb" that is. Realizing it was merely an interlude to another one of their classics, the crows roared and rhymed the lyrics right longs with B-Real and Sen.

From beginning to end, Cypress led their fans through an hour and a half of their catalog of classic material, from "How I Could Just Kill a Man," to the night's closer that left them anticipating even more "Rap Superstar."

Be sure to catch the next leg of the "Pure Night Out" tour featuring Busta Rhymes at the House of Blues in Anaheim on Wed. August 27, 2003.
