On Saturday, January 22nd, Hip-Hop and Madden 2005 combined for the first ever event of it's kind. With $500 cash, a championship belt and prizes from the events sponsors (see below) on the line, 32 contestants participated in Volume 1 of ThaFormula.Com King of Kings Madden Tournament at Stacks Vinyl in Cerritos, CA. At the end of the day, the man known as “Tha Problem” reigned supreme and proved to be too much for the competition.

With a backdrop of Hip-Hop classics old and new mixed by DJ Lord Ron and DJ Maskillz, competitors from all over the South Bay came out to prove who’s skills could back up their words. Before the first whistle, everyone was already laying claim to the belt and cash, but the players found out early on that competition was no joke. 

The early rounds of the 32 man (and woman) tournament were filled with blowouts. Rigo, Chipmunk and Reality all made quick work of their opponents blowing them out by as much as 42-0.

 The first round also saw some heated competition from Brother J (founding member of X-Clan, and the event’s half time performer who battled Razor Sharp to a 14-12 defensive battle and pulled out the victory in the last seconds of regulation to move onto the second round.

As the tournament progressed the games drew closer with virtually no blow outs and nothing but hardcore “D” being played on both sides of the field. Brother J bowed out gracefully in the second round, as did Dee and Big Vic. The semi-final round saw one of the best matchups of the day with Reality battling Chipmunk in a battle against the clock that saw Chipmunk pull it out and move onto the Final round.

With the cash and prizes on the line, Tha Problem’s Atlanta Falcons and Chipmunk’s Minnesota Viking’s moved into the final game. Once again proving to be a battle of defense the game could have gone either way. With 47 seconds remaining on the clock in  the 3rd quarter and after a sack for a huge loss Tha Problem began to flex his passing game and eventually scored to move ahead 21-10. In the 4th desperately in need of TD, Chipmunk tossed an interception that set up a final TD for Tha Problem and Atlanta that would seal his victory. As Gangstarr’s “Skillz” blazed the speakers, Tha Problem took home the belt, cash and prizes, and runners up Chipmunk and Reality walked away with $50 gift cards to Gamestop.
